Makers District

Designed with BIG architects of Copenhagen and MVRDV Architects of Rotterdam, the Makers District project is a high-end mixed-use development strategically located in Reem Island, Abu Dhabi. The scenic waterfront development offers contemporary living with a dynamic and multi-layered experience through residential, hospitality, commercial, and retail outlets.

Lighting is integrated within architectural details, illuminating features and embracing the architectural vocabulary. Throughout, lighting becomes part of the urban vocabulary, embracing the type of space and giving each specific space its own identity. The malleability of the urban plazas is expressed through adjustable equipment and provisions for additional lighting, allowing for the transformation of the public realm when required.

Lighting morphed into art, with the materiality of light acting as a medium of inspiration, craftsmanship, and social attraction at night, all whilst embracing the innovative character of the community. This approach aligned with the adaptable and dynamic urban equipment, creating opportunities for fun interventions.

The lighting master plan utilised energy efficient and future-proof equipment, conveying its sustainability and standing as a city of the future.
