Alif, The Mobility Pavilion, Expo 2020

Alif, the Mobility Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai occupies a dedicated plaza at the south entrance to the site. With its lively, dynamic landscape and undulating tracks and demonstration areas, it proved ideal for showcasing the latest technology innovations related to mobility.

Alif, the Mobility Pavilion, encompassed three sub-themes: Empowering People through Mobility, Distributing Goods and Resources, and Connecting through Data and Information. Delta Lighting Design worked to create three distinct zones to help contain the stories associated with each of the themes, with each zone forming a petal in the tri-foil plan.

Beyond Expo 2020, as part of a broader legacy plan, the pavilion will be re-purposed as a Grade A office to support functions of the neighbouring Dubai World Central Masterplan, the world’s largest integrated transport and infrastructure hub.

The Mobility Pavilion at Expo 2020 is an iconic architectural building, designed to offer guests a glimpse into the futuristic vision of the world. With 'mobility' as the main theme, lighting design translated the concepts of ‘dynamics’ and ‘movement’ into real-life design, exalting the innovative architecture and the latest technology displayed at Expo 2020. Lighting design stamps a futuristic impression into night-time image of the building, emphasizing the infinite curves of the facades through visual fluidity and ever-changing hues. This bold approach results into a veering and energetic envelope, that surprises and amazes at the same time.

Our team was responsible for the technical design stage, focusing on the seamless integration of light fittings within the architectural design, to deliver the intent and ensure lighting performance is achieving the targeted criteria. The architecture offers a great opportunity to incorporate and control the lighting fixtures.
