Process

01

STEP

Initiation

We at Delta Lighting Design maintain that understanding the project's context is imperative in developing a logical lighting design approach for each component, and we therefore begin with a deep analysis of the site’s surroundings. Our methodology focuses on understanding lighting design opportunities, and a hierarchical approach is developed to act as the basis for the overall lighting strategy.

02

STEP

Concept Design

A thorough understanding and analysis of the architectural concept design is undertaken. Design workshops are delivered to those internal to the project and others in related disciplines to facilitate a common project understanding.

The Design Team explores project-specific characteristics, including cultural, economic, and environmental factors, to stimulate feedback critical to the concept development process. Since client interests and vision are pivotal in steering the direction of the design, this creative approach is executed to ensure all project participants are given an exceptional experience.

03

STEP

Schematic Design

At this stage, concept ideas are realised by the Design Team. Compatible lighting equipment is selected in accordance with the corresponding performance criteria to achieve the desired results as outlined in the Concept stage.

Sketches of mounting and integration details are generated and deliberated on with related disciplines. Preliminary fittings are selected - or created in the case of custom items – in close coordination with architects and MEP consultants to ensure integration principles are agreed upon. A general lighting layout is developed as a principal output of this stage in addition to preliminary fitting selections and lighting calculations, where required.

04

STEP

Technical Design

The Design Team will assess architectural details and refine lighting details as required. Close coordination with related disciplines, such as allowable space for integration and energy allowances, will ensure lighting design is aligned with project constraints.

Following a market and manufacturers’ analysis process, detailed specifications are developed for each fitting in terms of quality, cost, and alignment with design intent. Internal quality assurance sessions are carried out to ensure all delivery criteria are met.

05

STEP

Tender & IFC

At this stage, the Design Team refines and finalises the light-fitting specifications for issuance in a final tender document to the Contractor. Coordination between disciplines ensures that the lead consultant and client comments on the detailed design package and drawings are implemented.

06

STEP

Construction Supervision

At this stage, the Design Team will attend a specific number of site reviews to inspect the lighting installations and provide comments and support to the lead consultant. They will also attend contractor meetings and provide feedback, review drawings, fixing details, sample reviews and other items. A part of the work is done off-site where the team will be responsible for responding to contractor’s RFIs and reviewing fitting samples.

The preparation of a final snag list will be provided by the Design Team which then a final project sign off will be completed.
